Gearing Up For Oakley DayPublished 24/06/2014
13th June 2014
People in the North East are to be given a sneak preview of the sunglasses that will be worn by some of the world’s best cyclists competing in next month’s Tour de France.
Eye-wear manufacturer Oakley has teamed up with Wade Opticians to host a one-day event at the optician’s branch in Saddler Street, Durham, on Saturday 28th June – just a week before this year’s Tour de France ‘Grand Depart’ gets underway in Yorkshire.
All stock will be replaced by the entire collection of Oakley eyewear and sunglasses for one day only
Among the glasses that will be on display will be Oakley RadarLock, as worn by the last two winners of the Tour de France, Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome, and the most successful Tour sprinter of all time, Mark Cavendish. These frames allow the cyclists to change lenses as quickly as possible to reflect the current riding conditions.
Also available on the day will be limited edition sunglasses worn by the Team GB racing team and Oakley’s brand new Scuderia Ferrari Collection, which reflects the company being the 2014 official supplier of eyewear to the Formula 1 team.
Anyone who buys Oakley frames on the day will receive a free Oakley gift bag, valued at £50, and be entered into a prize draw to win Oakley sunglasses worth over £500.
Kirsty Wade, Creative Director of Wade Opticians, said: "Oakley is one of the most iconic eyewear brands in the world so we are delighted to be able to host their complete collection for one day only.
“The fact the event is taking place just a week before the Tour de France starts just down the road in Yorkshire, and where many of the top riders will be wearing Oakley frames, we think will make it even more appealing.
“Many of the frames will only available to buy on the day, so this really will be an exclusive day.”
