Dyslexia Services

According to the British Dyslexia Association, dyslexia is an umbrella term covering a range of learning related problems. Dyslexia affects more than 16%+ of the population and four times as many males suffer from the condition as females.
Dyslexia has nothing to do with intelligence - except that, by definition, almost all dyslexics are much more intelligent than can be predicted by their reading ability. Indeed, some of our most famous are or were dyslexic - Albert Einstein, Richard Branson, Sir Winston Churchill, Toya Wilcox, Susan Hampshire, AA Gill and Anthea Turner, Tom Cruise to name but a few.
Do you, or someone you know, experience:
Academic skills disorder (ASD™)

Dyspraxia (lack of co-ordination; clumsiness)

...signs include - but are not limited to - individuals who:
Are intelligent but have not reached their full potential at school
Avoid reading, writing or mathematics
Have difficulty in concentrating
Have difficulty in following texts - i.e. skipping lines and words
Have difficulty in copying correctly
Have been diagnosed with myopia, astigmatism or strabismus, up to 0.75 - yet have experienced little or no improvement in academic studies

Over 85% of all we ever learn originates via our vision. When a child demonstrates learning difficulties this is very often because the brain and eyes are struggling to process what is being seen. The good news is that with the right diagnosis and treatment, this can be corrected.

We are one of only a handful of opticians in the UK that provides specialist vision therapy services for people with dyslexia and/or learning difficulties. Our Managing Director Alastair Wade is a qualified Behavioural Optometrist with vast experience in vision therapy, and is regarded as a leader in his field.

We have had some fantastic results helping people with dyslexia and/or learning difficulties and you can read more of their stories in our case studies.

Assessments for vision therapy are carried out at our practices in Prudhoe, Durham and Darlington, but please call or email any our seven practices for further information. You can also visit our Dedicated Dyslexia Services Website.

*We offer special rates to schools, depending on pupil numbers, who wish to engage our services directly to help address children’s learning issues.
