When you visit Rees & Wade we start by finding out about your past history and what you are wearing. We then take accurate measurements of the cornea to determine the severity of the condition. Next we assess the quality of your vision and prescription.
From here we then decide what solution is best for you. These could be:
- Corneal RGP (Moderate – severe keratoconus)
A traditional hard contact lens that sits on the cornea, these are all custom made to ensure the very best comfort and vision.
- Semi Scleral lenses (Severe)
A more comfortable option, and great for severe cases. The only real downside is they are harder insert and more liable to break.
- Piggy Back system (Moderate – severe)
The best option for patients who have good vision in their standard RGPs but have difficulties with the comfort
- Toric soft contact lenses (Mild-moderate)
Only for mild to moderate severity, however they are cheap and easy to use.
Contact lenses are not the only solution for keratoconic patients, many get the best outcomes by using spectacles.
