Sports Vision

Sports VisionThe Basics

Sports vision has a massive effect on the performance of Athletes and is being used by many of the top sporting clubs. The training is most popular in the US where nearly every sporting club uses it. Whether it be Basketball, Baseball, American Football or Soccer, sports vision can improve performance. Below is a list of skills which be measured and improved by sports vision.

Peripheral Awareness

The average human never fully utilises their potential field of vision, especially under extreme conditions such as speed or fratigue. If you can learn to increase your field of awareness, you are able to know a lot more about what is going on than before. Take a footballer for example, the best footballers always know where their teamates are, This is because of good peripheral awareness.

Dynamic Visual Acuity (DVA)

This is the eye's ability to track a moving object and accurately make decisions in relation to the object. A cricketer with a good DVA will be able to hit a ball a lot more accurately than one with a bad DVA.

Colourvision

This is a subject that is often overlooked, but is vitally important for sports such as football, golf and cricket. Good colour visionaides DVA and enables the athlete to find an object on a surface such as grass. It is also usefull for golfers, as it allows them to judge the roll on a green.

Reactions and responses

We can lower your reaction times by training your eyes to detect objects or situations. As a result your reponse time will fall.

Co-ordination

The training increases co-ordination, so that you are in full control at all times. Co-ordination is affected most when you are tired.

Sports vision Tools

As well as using exercises we recoomend that most atheletes use a range of tools designed to aid your development. The two main option we offer patients are precision sunglasses with lenses suited specicically to your sport, and sports contact lenses with build in UV protection.

Precision Sunglasses

Adidas and Bolle are the two manufacturers of sports sunglasses we provide. Bolle provide a range of over 100 different lenses, which can be fitted into a range of plastic, metal and combination frames. Each frame is hand made, and designed for a small number of sports. This enables the designers to focus on design features that are specific. Adidas provide a smaller range of lenses, but with far more flexibility in the frame. All of adidas' sports frames are made from a composite plastic to maximise flexibility and durability. They also have an ingenious interchange system which alllows you to swap lenses, sides, nose pads and clima cool strips (to provent steaming up).

Specialist Sports Contact Lenses

Provided by nike, our sports contact lenses provide the wearer with accurate vision, as well as UV protection. The lenses are tinited in a special way which enhances the wearers ability to perceive changes, giving that little bit more.
